DIRECTOR/CLINICAL PSYCHOLOGIST

Shazeema Mashood Shah is a Certified Senior Clinical Psychologist that has been trained in working with Children and Adults with Mental and Developmental disorders. Before entering full-time into the private sector in 2017, she worked as a full-time Clinical Psychologist in Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM).

Shazeema Mashood Shah was born in Singapore and later moved to Malaysia. She studied in Singapore till 11 years old and continued her secondary studies in Malaysia. She then pursued her Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology at the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM). She was exposed to both psychology and also Islamic studies in IIUM and integrates her knowledge in Islam in her practice.

She later found her passion in clinical psychology and was awarded the Japanese Government Scholarship (Monbukagakusho: MEXT) to do her Masters in Clinical Psychology in Kyushu University, Japan. In Japan, Shazeema was exposed to the theories and practices of Clinical Psychology that are mainly used in Japan. The advanced practices in Japan in regards to their system and their clinical practice inspired her to join the government sector in Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia’s Health Psychology Clinic as a Full-time Clinical Psychologist so that she will be able to incorporate those skills and experience learned in Japan in her practice in UKM. She worked there till 2017.

When in Japan she was trained to work with children with special needs for play therapy and group playtherapy, and this is one of her areas of specialties. She also worked with special needs children in the
specialized therapy technique called Dohsa Hou. Her experience in Japan, working in group play therapies led her to believe that children with special needs also need a place to belong to and that this component of socialization and belonging enhances a child’s self-esteem. In addition, making them a happier and more fulfilled child.

In UKM, Shazeema worked with both adult and children clients. She also managed the clinic while seeing patients that were referred from all over Malaysia. She is experienced in working with families and has a
special interest in paediatrics, autism spectrum disorders, developmental delays, learning difficulties, disabilities and behaviour management. As she has worked with both children and adults in different settings, this has allowed her to gain experience in a wide range of clients. She specializes in conducting assessments for children with mental and developmental. She was also a clinical supervisor for Clinical Psychologist Trainees for the UKM Clinical Psychology Program which means that she also trained students to become Clinical Psychologists. Shazeema utilizes her experiences from Japan and Malaysia in her approach in her clinical practice. She incorporates a multicultural, practical, and client-centered approach in her practice with clients and their families. Her approach also entails some components of Islamic psychology when it is required. She also

Integrates current research in clinical psychology, developmental psychology and the values and beliefs of the Malaysian society within her practice. She believes that every child is unique and that the child’s
internal emotional well-being is one of the biggest important components that will foster the ongoing learning and development of the child.
Shazeema utilizes her experiences from Japan and Malaysia in her approach in her clinical practice. She incorporates a multicultural, practical, and client-centered approach in her practice with clients and their families. Her approach also entails some components of Islamic psychology when it is required. She also integrates current research in clinical psychology, developmental psychology and the values and beliefs
of the Malaysian society within her practice. She believes that every child is unique and that the child’s internal emotional well-being is one of the biggest important components that will foster the ongoing learning and development of the child.

While working in UKM, Farah was the Senior Certified Clinical Psychologists that catered to both children and adult clients. She was also a clinical supervisor for Clinical Psychologist Trainees for the UKM Clinical Psychology Program which means that she also trained students to become Clinical Psychologists.

Farah’s approach incorporates an empathic, practical, playful and relational approach to psychotherapy with clients and their families. Respected for her strong diagnostic and clinical skills, her treatment is
relationship-based and incorporates current research in clinical psychology, neuroscience, developmental psychology and at the same time incorporates the values and beliefs of the Malaysian society.
